Hello!! My name is Ryan and I'm from Houston, Tx. I'm a MDS/Pre-Pharmacy major with a minor in AFAM. I took this class because I have always wanted to take a womens' studies class and this one sounded very interesting. I am embarking on my 3rd year as a Resident Advisor and it will be much easier for me to relate to my girls and their issues if I can study the problems that face them when they get to college, body image being a big concern. I expect to get a new/better understanding of the issues that women of all ages face when it comes to their bodies and the pressures that they face to live up to a certain standard. The questions I hope to have answered in this class are why does there have to be a beauty standard?, who determines what the standard is e.g., what makes them experts in beauty?, how does beauty differ across the world?, how has beauty and body image evolved over centuries?, and is there any way for all women and men to just be happy with the way they are?
